Bécalas Programs
Focus: Educational/Professional
Start: October 2021
The advancement of artificial intelligence and other technologies suggests that, in the medium term, future jobs will be predominantly filled by professionals with advanced knowledge in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). These fields are often stereotyped as “male careers,” which discourages women from pursuing them. If this bias persists, the economic and professional growth gap for women will significantly widen as technology advances over time.
In an effort to shift the landscape in favor of women, Club Tigres, in partnership with Bécalos, awards annual leadership scholarships to women studying STEM careers. Currently, 120 young women from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) benefit from this program, representing diverse fields such as Physics, Mechatronics, Engineering, Biotechnology, Genomics, and more.
This scholarship lasts for one year and includes one-on-one mentoring with female STEM professionals, along with engaging webinars on personal and professional development, covering topics such as:
- Creating an effective resume to attract future employers
- Tips and tricks for managing emails like a professional
- Fundamentals of collaborative tools (Workspace)
- Effective communication as a tool for empowerment
- TikTok and tools for professional use
Through this leadership scholarship, we aim to empower students so that, upon graduation, they can work in fields aligned with their professional careers.
In this way, Club Tigres contributes to closing the gender gap in traditionally stereotyped careers and creates opportunities for women to play a more active role in these professions of the future.
To date:
- All participating students have completed 8 out of 10 mentoring sessions, receiving emotional and professional support.
- 70% of students have successfully completed the webinars.
This first cohort of scholarship recipients will conclude their program in October 2022.

“In my experience with the Bécalas program, I have been learning from my mentors. Both have helped me resolve doubts and better shape the professional path of my career (a Bachelor’s in Physics). I’ve received advice on how to explore possibilities for gaining work experience, acquiring knowledge that could help me pursue certifications, and learning about platforms that can help me expand my skills and expertise.”
